IRF Side Event – Action for Road Safety: Private Sector Leadership

Ward Belet

In the framework of the UN High-Level Meeting on Global Road Safety to be held in New York on 30 June and 01 July, the International Road Federation is pleased to host an online side event  “Action for Road Safety: Private Sector Leadership”.

The new Global Plan for the Decade of Action clearly spells out that saving millions of lives and avoiding an estimated 50 million serious injuries per year will require significant commitment and greater action from everyone and that improving road safety is a sustainable development imperative that contributes to equitable improvements in social, environmental, and economic indicators.

The global plan acknowledges the role that the private sector can play. For the private sector,  road safety is no longer just a risk that can severely impact business, but a value and a key pillar of a vision that sees companies fully engaged with their employees and with the communities in which they operate.

The “Can Do” attitude and the expertise of the private sector in delivering sustainable solutions are precious munitions in fighting road deaths and injuries in support of the SDGs.  Often solicited only for financial contributions, the private sector has a lot more to offer: mentoring and expertise, the capacity to connect the dots and create communities of doers when it comes to demonstration projects, competence in assessing the impact of actions, and expertise in building long-term sustainability for an initiative.

This side event will explore the role of private sector partnerships in delivering road safety outcomes. It will do so through the concrete experiences that will be shared by a set of high-level industry speakers.

The event is free for everyone to access but registration is required.
